Nicole Lapotin, LCSW
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working as an outpatient therapist and I’m the founder of Holding Both Counseling. I have a Master’s degree in Social Work and am licensed by the Oregon Social Work Board. I started my private practice in 2015, and transitioned to Holding Both Counseling, a group practice for like-minded therapists, in 2026. My prior experience includes leadership roles at an eating disorder treatment center, where I worked at levels of care from intensive outpatient through residential.
Altogether, I’ve been working for over 25 years in the field of mental health and found that only deep relationships with other humans sustains my interests and fulfills my need for meaningful work. I’ve been a counselor in residential settings for adolescent women, a community-based skill-builder, provided therapy and ran groups at a day treatment program for adolescent boys, and have been a therapist to people struggling with eating disorders, trauma, and Complex PTSD.
Having this wide array of experience has made me appreciate the complexity what we call “symptoms.” I seek to never discount the multitude of systemic, situational, and interpersonal factors outside the individual that contribute to clients’ distress. Work with me is a balance between understanding the context and history a client is living within, while also finding interventions at the individual, interpersonal, or community/systemic level that can provide relief from the painful aspects of diagnoses. I strive to practice what I preach in all ways, and believe that contentment comes from living in accordance with your values.
I am a native Oregonian and need to be with big trees regularly. Spending time at the coast is crucial for me, especially with my partner, my child, and my sweet Pomeranian, Go-Go. I’m a plant lover, a reader, a self-care specialist, and an artist. I have tried my hand at many types of arts and crafts – everything from painting to ceramics to jewelry. My current passions are visible mending and weaving.
